FAQ
I am building a house. Can you provide a quote based on our plans?
Yes – our technicians are able to interpret structural plans, input them into our design package and provide a quote based on your requirements for your new home or office.
What payment options do you offer?
We accept various Credit Cards - Visa, Mastercard, American Express. We also accept Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) and Cheques
We can also offer payment plans tailored to suit your needs via Skye or Humm.
What are the eligibility requirements?
To install solar on your domestic property you must be the owner, not a rental tenant. We must receive written authorisation from the electricity account holder.
Your electrical connection must be compliant with current standards. If your house is older and the switchboard or connection is out of date and non-compliant we can provide you with a quote to rectify this as part of the complete project.
We are qualified, fully licensed electricians, not just solar installers.
How long does installation take?
Do I need planning approval?
Most rooftop systems do not require council approval. However, If the system is to be installed on a free-standing structure like a solar tracker or small scale solar farm we will advise you to get written clearance from your local council as a first step.
Your local supply authority, in SEQ this is Energex or Ergon, require the installer or electrical contractor to submit a system proposal prior to installation. This forms the basis of a legal agreement between Energex and the electricity account holder.
The largest standard system for a single-phase domestic property in the Energex distribution area consists of a 5kw inverter and 6.6kw solar panels. All components must have Clean Energy Council (CEC) approval.
What if my roof doesn’t face north or I have a flat/low-pitched roof?
Ideally, the solar system would be installed facing north on a roof pitched at 22-25 degrees, but this is not always possible.
Traditional string type inverters struggle to perform at their peak if the design of the system varies from these factors. It is hard to beat the performance of the perfect system. String inverters still very much have their place.
However, new technology allows us to install smart panels that deal with these hindrances far better. We can design and install a system using smart panels that will deal with shading, multi-facet rooves, poor orientation or tilt far better than the traditional string inverter systems.
What size system will I need?
The best way for us to determine this will be to evaluate your property, i.e available space for solar panels and current electrical usage in order to design that best suits your needs and give you the best result.
Do I still need electricity?
Yes, all grid-connected systems require an energised connection to the grid.
What warranties can I get?
BCS offer a lifetime warranty on workmanship.
BCS only used high-quality CEC approved components made by reputable long-standing companies. Each component and brand carries different a warranty period. Minimum of 5 years manufacturer’s warranty.
Are you licenced?
Yes, we always have at least 1 licensed solar designer and installer and multiple qualified, professional and experienced electricians and electrical apprentices attending our sites.
What is the STC rebate?
An STC is a small-scale technology certificate, which is kind of like a discount coupon on the cost of a solar system or any other small-scale renewable energy system (think solar hot water, small-scale wind or hydro). The number of STC’s issues will depend on the size and location of your system. The amount of STC’s available reduces every year. Each STC is worth approx. $36 ( August 2021).
The STC rebate is used to reduce the out of pocket cost of the renewable energy system. It is standard practice to assign the STC’s to the installing company allowing them to make the claim and the system owner to have a lower initial installation cost.
